Best essential oils for medical grade hemp skincare

We are thrilled to introduce you to the gold standard of medicinal grade hemp! We use a rare form of hemp called “Spagyric Hemp Extract.” In this extract, every part of the plant is meticulously preserved to increase medicinal benefits. Alkaline minerals from the plant are added back while the extract is fresh, preserving the active compounds of the plant and increasing bio-availability. The terpenes and flavonoids in the hemp plant are also preserved. Combing the benefits of medicinal plants with spagyric hemp extract has helped our clients treat injuries, chronic stress, anxiety, and pain quickly. This extract is made in Colorado by chemists who have over 20 years of experience in producing medicinal hemp extractions.

Why use our CBD Topicals?

Healing Oil and Body Oil work best when massaged into sore joints and muscles. The oils can also be put onto the cloth part of a Band-Aid and applied to cuts, bruises, and sensitive skin. Many of our customers, especially skateboarders, use it for treating and disinfecting open cuts and wounds. It will dramatically reduce the pain from an open wound. Be careful not to apply too much oil if you are planning to use it on a Band-Aid as it may get in between the adhesive part of the Band-Aid and the skin, making the Band-Aid more likely to fall off. If you have a history of very sensitive skin, patch test a small amount before applying a large amount of oil. Out of the thousands of people who use our oil, the only person who has reported skin irritation had a long history of severe sunburns.

The difference between our Healing Oil and Body Oil lies in the ingredients. Our Body Oil is the base for our Healing Oil and doesn’t contain added essential oils. Most dermatologists prescribe to the idea that less is more for skincare. Therefore, we carefully chose the safest essential oils for Healing Oil. Every essential oil and extract contained in it is well-known for being safe to use on sensitive skin. We have included a brief description of each added ingredient below.

The benefits of adding medicinal plant extracts to CBD Piggy Body Oil

Developing CBD Piggy Healing Oil with terpenes from medicinal plants came to us when we learned that terpenes work together with cannabinoids. These medicinal plants help manage anxiety, pain, and inflammation. We added essential oils that have been recognized as safe and which provide similar benefits to CBD, strengthening the existing benefits of CBD and acting on different pathways.

Blue Chamomile

Blue Chamomile is a plant that is native to Southern and Eastern Europe. Extracts from this plant are used in tea and in herbal pharmacy, especially in skin care. Apigenin, bisabolol, farnesene, and matricin are found in Blue Chamomile Co2 extract, and these are what makes blue chamomile so attractive. The main reason we chose Co2 extract instead of essential oil for Blue Chamomile was that many components of chamomile break down when exposed to steam in the distillation process. Bisabolol and Bisabol-oxides are very good at penetrating the skin, which is why Blue Chamomile is used in many skin care products to enhance delivery of active ingredients to target areas. Farnesene is a known anti-spasmodic and muscle relaxant. Matricin, another unique compound to chamomile, is a potent anti-inflammatory. Last but not least, Apigenin is a flavonoid that is known to bind to the same receptors that certain benzodiazepine drugs also bind to, enhancing its ability to relax and possibly help relieve pain.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood (New Caledonian) is a tree that has multiple different varieties and species growing across large parts of the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Australia. It is used medicinally throughout many cultures, especially in India. The source of the oil is the entire tree, which is steam-distilled and extracted. The two main components of Sandalwood essential oil are alpha-santalol and beta-santalol. Alpha-santalol is an ingredient in perfumes that has demonstrated reduced skin inflammation and even induced cell death of skin cancer cells. Beta-santalol is an isomer of alpha-santalol and has most of the same effects. Sandalwood essential oil is a staple in premium skincare products.

Helichrysum

Helichrysum is another plant containing many beneficial terpenes that help reduce skin inflammation. It is one of the few known plants that also contain the cannabinoid CBG, “the mother of all cannabinoids.” It is especially known for improving skin elasticity treating bruises, rashes, and small wounds. It mainly contains alpha-pinene, beta selinene and gamma-curcumene. Alpha-pinene is a precursor to many terpenes that are found in nature. It is highly bioavailable in humans and is found in many plants. It is an antimicrobial and binds to PGE1 receptors, making it a potent pain-relieving compound. Beta-selinene is a compound that is a good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic. Gamma-curcumene is another terpene that is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, especially against the fungus Candida albicans.

Frankincense

Frankincense (Boswellia Carterii) is a tree whose sap contains large amounts of terpenes. This one is tapped directly from the tree, where the sap comes out in drops and solidifies. Frankincense imparts a rich, luxurious scent and contains many anti-inflammatory terpenes.  One of these is Boswellic acid. It has been shown to have positive effects for people dealing with arthritis. Frankincense is rich in alpha-Pinene as well, reinforcing many of the same benefits of Helichrysum extract.

Rose x Damascena

Rose Co2 Extract (Damascena) is considered the most prized rose species thanks to its luxurious scent and therapeutic qualities. Out of all our ingredients, Rose works primarily by stimulating the olfactory nerves. Rose’s scent has been extensively studied and shown to anti-depressant and stress-relieving effects. We chose the Co2 extract instead of the essential oil because it had the most pleasing scent out of all the Rose samples we tested. Also, the Co2 extract contains every oil-soluble component of the rose flower, recreating the original smell better than a steam-distilled extract. Based on advice from experts in the essential oil business, the more pleasant the smell, the higher the quality of the extract.

Beta-Caryophyllene

Beta-Caryophyllene interacts with the endocannabinoid system and with CB2 receptors found within our bodies. Because beta-caryophyllene is one of the most effective activators of the CB2 receptor, we determined it was necessary to include it. While the CB1 receptors are located primarily deep inside the body, common locations of CB2 receptors include the ears, stomach, muscles, blood vessels, glands, cranial nerves, and spinal nerves. When inflammation occurs, CB2 activity stops inflammatory signaling pathways, reducing pain, redness, and swelling. This terpene is found in many different plants, like cannabis, black pepper, allspice, figs and chamomile

We believe the added essential oils create their own form of entourage effect. Synergizing the benefits of medicinal plants with hemp is the next step to help treat inflammation, injuries, chronic stress, anxiety, and pain. We hope you have found this information useful.
